115 people are directly employed by Brompton at our site in West London; they come from all over the London area (most arriving by Brompton) as there is a need for quite a diversity of skills in the factory. Here are a few of them...
Andrew, who conceived the Brompton, stepped down as MD in April 2008, though he remains heavily involved in the day-to-day affairs of the company, in particular quality control, training and legal matters. He may still be seen commuting up and down the A4 on his Brompton in all weathers; he just gets to go home a little earlier than he used to.
Will joined Brompton in November 2004, shortly after graduating with a Masters in Product Design and Manufacture from Loughborough University. Will works with Steve, our Chief Engineer, and the rest of the Design Team on everything we design at Brompton, from the special tooling and equipment to new products and accessories. Will likes to test his Brompton to breaking point, switching to off-road biking and other sports at the weekends.
Abdul has been with Brompton since 1997 and is one of our most experienced brazers; before joining us, his working background included welding pipes for electricity power stations. It is in Abdul’s department that the superior-quality brazing takes place for which the Brompton is renowned, and which underpins the bike’s strength and longevity.
Terence is one of our team of highly-skilled bike-builders. He has been with Brompton for just three years and, despite a somewhat retiring nature, now boasts that he can build 20 bikes a day. Unfortunately, he supports Liverpool FC. Terence is one of a number of Franklins working at Brompton, having followed his aunt Theresa and other members of the family to our unprepossessing factory in Brentford.
Theresa joined Brompton in 2002 from an entertainment systems background. She works in the Sales and Accounts team and undertakes much of the day to day communication with our dealers and distributors, particularly those in the UK. Theresa counts music, dancing and cooking as some of her hobbies, though we only benefit from the latter at work.
