Brompton US Championship 2010

The first ever Brompton U.S. Championship was successfully completed on Saturday, 20th March. Some 59 competitors enjoyed sunny skies whilst riding the 6 mile course around Memorial Hall in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park.

Philadelphia’s Aaron Ritz, a city planner, amateur cycle racer and bicycle mechanic, won the men’s competition and a trip to England for the Brompton World Championship in October. Ritz finished the 6.2 miles course in 18:28, aboard a Brompton S2L-X. Men’s favourite David Wilcox, of Broadway Bicycles in Jamaica Plain, MA, was hindered by a delay in unfolding at the race’s start. He worked hard but came in 3rd, with Peter Dalkner taking second.

Ritz will be joined by the top woman finisher, Beth Green, a competitive rowing coach and member of staff at Trophy Bikes in Philadelphia. Greene rode a single-speed Brompton S1E-X. For a full table of results click the button at the bottom of the page.

The event attracted riders from across the U.S., with riders from 11 states as far off as California. Riders also arrived from Japan, Italy and France.

The race was part of the Philly Phlyer Collegiate Cycling Weekend, which concluded on Sunday, 21 March.

The 5th Annual Brompton World Championship will be held on 3rd October, 2010, at Blenheim Palace, England.
